In a significant development at the office of JJP leader OP Sihag, a serious discussion unfolded regarding the ongoing efforts for the rehabilitation of thousands of people residing in the colonies of Panchkula city. The meeting saw the participation of key JJP leaders, including district JJP’s SC cell coordinator Jasveer Jassi, Rajiv Colony resident, and district convenors from various JJP cells.
Among the attendees were Rajesh Nishad, district convenor of Jannayak Karmachari Mazdoor Sangh cell, KC Bhardwaj, district convenor of the intellectual cell, Surinder Chadda, chief of the sports cell and JJP district convenor, and Hiraman Verma, a district JJP executive member.
The discussion primarily focused on the Haryana Government’s initiative to allot plots to the residents of Rajiv Colony, Indira Colony, and Kharak Mangoli for rehabilitation in other locations. The decision, as reported in the media, involves providing one marla plots to eligible residents of the mentioned colonies.
While the JJP leaders acknowledged the government’s effort, they expressed concern over the small size of the allotted plots. They argued that such plots would not adequately accommodate large families and deemed it impractical for proper living conditions.
JJP leader OP Sihag voiced his opinion that the government should reconsider its decision, stating that relocating poor residents from one slum to another is a cruel jest. He criticized the planning officials, expressing pity for their lack of intelligence and foresight.
Jasveer Jassi, a resident of Rajiv Colony and the district JJP SC cell coordinator, emphasized the dire situation of the poor families in the colonies, questioning how large families could live in such cramped conditions.
Sihag cited instances in other cities where the government had allocated two marla plots at concessional rates for rehabilitation, proposing a similar approach for the residents of Panchkula’s colonies. He asserted that the government should provide all necessary facilities in addition to larger plots.
As a result of the informal meeting, it was decided that a delegation, comprising senior JJP members in the district, would soon meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula and the Chief Administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority to address this crucial issue. The delegation plans to submit a memorandum outlining their concerns and proposals for consideration
