JJP, an ally in power, having high hopes from BJP to continue in alliance

In the run-up to the upcoming 2024 parliamentary polls is witnessing pendulum swings, and competing and conflicting perceptions and new political developments and in view of this, the ruling BJP and its ally Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the main opposition party Congress in Haryana are mulling over every possible strategy to form the department and return to power respectively. Amid this, the ongoing peasants agitation 2.0 has led to political uproar and new speculations forcing all factions to come up with a new strategy. Amid the prevailing scenario talks pertaining to the “ whether the alliance between the BJP and JJP will remain in existence or not” are continuously surfacing in political corridors.

Even after facing fiasco in assembly polls in adjoining Rajasthan and having huge expectations from the BJP High command, the JJP is still pretty hopeful of being in alliance with the BJP in Haryana. Efforts are on to expand the clan, so in such a situation, JJP leaders feel that the central leadership of BJP in Haryana will keep the alliance intact and the parliamentary polls battle will be fought together. If JJP leaders are to be believed, at the national level the NDA is currently under the central leadership of BJP. There has been no discussion on seat distribution among the parties involved.

From the very beginning, JJP is moving forward with the notion that in case no alliance remains then the party is prepared to contest the elections at its own level. With months left in upcoming polls, the JJL is on toes claiming a huge victory on 10 Lok Sabha seats, especially focusing on Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendergarh focus on 2 seats. It is pertinent to mention that the JJP has held rallies in 6 parliamentary constituencies in Sirsa, Sonipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra , Bhiwani-Mahendergarh and Faridabad lok seats while rallies are yet to be held in the remaining 4 Lok Sabha constituencies including Hisar, Ambala, Gurugram and Rohtak Lok Sabha constituencies.

JJP is eyeing two Lok Sabha seats, Hisar and Bhiwani. In case the alliance with BJP remains, JJP is most likely to stake its claim on these two seats in Haryana. Notably, the Deputy Chief Minister from Hisar. Dushyant Chautala and his father Dr. Ajay Singh Chautala have previously been MPs from Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seats respectively.
With an aim to mark third consecutive victory in Haryana, the state Haryana BJP is moving forward with a calculative strategy of contesting the elections and most of the party stalwarts have hinted at going solo in polls stating that the prevailing alliance with the JJP may cause loss to the party. Although, the party high command is the supreme authority to take final calls pertaining to matters and if the alliance remains intact then analysts believe that JJP can be offered Hisar seat. BJP which emerged victorious on all the 10 Lok Sabha seats by huge margin in 2019 , is believed to contest all 10 seats on its own. and the state leadership is moving ahead with the target of 10 seats, while on the other hand, the central leadership has also given the task of making the state leadership bloom again on 10 seats. In such a situation, the scenario remains uncertain and blurred regarding the same.

On the other hand, if it has to contest the elections alone, then JJP can field Dr. Ajay Chautala who holds the portfolio of the JJP National President from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh. Earlier, Ajay repeatedly said he will file the nomination papers from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh seat, and he will approach the Supreme Court and Election Commission to get permission to contest the poll as he had served sentence in junior basic teacher (JBT) recruitment scam. He also said that in case he does not get permission to contest the poll, Digvijay Chautala will contest from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh seat. added.Ajay had won from the Bhiwani Lok Sabha seat in 1999 and his wife Naina Chautala is currently MLA from Badhra constituency which falls under Bhiwani-Mahendergarh parliamentary seat.

Presently, the Bhiwani-Mahendergarh seat is represented by BJP’s Dharambir Singh. He won from here in the last two general polls and he had also claimed to contest the next poll from here.
