Jammu-Kashmir police seizes property linked to terrorism under UAPA

SRINAGAR: In a significant crackdown on terrorism, the Jammu-Kashmir police announced on Sunday the seizure of a property worth lakhs under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The seized property, a single-storey residential house situated in Monghama Pulwama, was allegedly utilized by terrorists as a hideout for carrying out anti-national activities, according to authorities.

Mohammad Lateef Kar, the owner of the house, purportedly provided logistical support to the terrorists and is believed to have connections to terrorist networks.

The property has now been placed under official seizure, with stringent restrictions imposed on any transfer, lease, disposal, or alteration without prior authorization from the designated authority.

This action comes in the wake of FIR No. 315/2023 U/S 16, 18, 19 20, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act lodged at the Pulwama police station.

Enacted in 1967, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) empowers law enforcement agencies to detain individuals involved in unlawful activities posing a threat to the state’s security and integrity. The primary objective of the law is to prevent activities that undermine India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The seizure of the property marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and disrupt its support infrastructure, reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement agencies to safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
