The Goraya police, during a checkpoint, seized four drug smugglers hiding in a truck, recovering 63 kilograms of opium from them. All four suspects were carrying opium concealed in tea leaves.

SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar shared that the Goraya police in-charge, Sukhdev Singh, set up the checkpoint on Friday afternoon with a police team. They received confidential information about a large consignment of opium being transferred from the highway. During the checkpoint, the police stopped and searched two trucks and a tractor-trailer, leading to the recovery of a total of 63 kilograms of opium.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were smuggling opium hidden in tea leaves from Imphal, Manipur, to supply it in Amritsar. They will be presented in court on Friday for further interrogation and remand. During the remand period, additional members of the gang involved in the case could be identified and apprehended.”
