A continuous spell of dense fog has blanketed the region, significantly impacting daily life and compelling people to stay indoors during late mornings and sunsets. The weather observatory at Shri Karn Narendra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jaipur, reported a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, marking the coldest day of the season. Supervisor Ummed Singh Manohar indicated that while temperatures were negative on January 4 and 5 last year, they have not dipped below freezing this time.
The Meteorological Department forecasts the persistence of dense fog and cold waves for the next two days, with a new western disturbance anticipated from January 7. Light rain is expected in Udaipur and Kota regions on January 7, followed by the possibility of rain in Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner, and Bharatpur regions on January 8-9.
The entire state, including Northern India, is in the clutches of severe cold waves and dense fog, causing discomfort and inconvenience for the public. The sun remains obscured in thick fog, and relief from the harsh cold and dense fog is not expected in the next two days. Jaipur, resembling the wintry landscapes of Shimla, Kullu, and Manali, grapples with intense cold and reduced visibility.
Jaipur’s Jobner witnessed reduced visibility as the temperature reached 2.5 degrees, marking it as the coldest day of the season. Rail, road, and air services in the city are also affected by the pervasive dense fog.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the next two days, predicting the persistence of dense fog and cold due to an approaching western disturbance. From January 7, the disturbance may bring light to moderate rain in Udaipur and Kota regions, followed by similar conditions in Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bikaner, and Bharatpur regions on January 8-9.
As the temperature in Jaipur’s Jobner hit 2.5 degrees, making it the coldest day of the season, people sought refuge in warm spaces like Alawa. Fog-covered roads led to reduced visibility, impacting the pace of vehicles and causing a slowdown in traffic.
