Jagan issues free crop insurance, BJP calls him a ‘Sticker CM’

The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy issued orders implementing free crop insurance for kharif crops, which are under cultivation at present. The scheme is for all cultivators, farmers who are cultivating notified crops in the areas based on registration through e-crop (Android-based Crop registration in real-time).

The details of crop sown have been physically verified and protection is provided to all genuine and eligible cultivators only in a hassle-free enrolment format. This creates a transparent yet efficient process for the farmers. To maximize coverage as intended by the Andhra Pradesh Government, enrolment campaigns have been conducted. The farmers are very happy with the decision and enrolled in large numbers by duly paying a token amount of Rs 1. The announcement of free crop insurance resulted in a steep increase in all parameters of enrolment. The government has been providing Rythu Bharosa amount, setting up RBKs, facilitating e-cropping, crop insurance, and crop loans. The BJP has criticized this scheme of the Jagan government. BJP leader Lanka Dinakar said,” Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has become more popular as a Sticker CM by affixing the stickers against the Central Government Schemes where a significant share of assistance has been provided by the Union Government.

He affixed either his name or his father’s name on Centrally sponsored schemes like Samagra Siksha Abhiyan Yojana. Now, he has targeted the Union Government Scheme, Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for affixing one more sticker in their name, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PMFBY aims at supporting the farmers.” Dinakar further added that all the risks from sowing to harvesting have been covered in PMFBY. “All farmers including sharecroppers and tenant farmers growing notified crops in the notified areas are eligible under this scheme and there will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. It is unfortunate to advertise the union government schemes by your name,” he said.
