Internal Rifts in the INDIA Alliance

Ahead of the INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai, evident disagreements have emerged among its members. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a significant alliance proponent, accused the Bengal Congress of being too lenient towards the BJP. Similarly, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal voiced his criticisms against Congress in Chandigarh. Another unexpected move came from RLD leader Jayanta Chowdhury, who refrained from voting against the Delhi ordinance bill. To address these internal conflicts, alliance senior leaders are considering the formation of a special committee.

US Lobbying in Delhi Over Bangladesh Elections

US think tank representatives and senators are currently in Delhi to advocate for a transparent Bangladesh election. The US administration has been urging the Sheikh Hasina government to ensure a fair electoral process. Given India’s inclination towards the Awami League government, multiple US representatives are expressing their views in the capital. Recently, the Observer Research Foundation hosted an event featuring Clifford Smith, director of the Washington Project. Smith emphasized the need for a leadership shift in Bangladesh, but reportedly received limited support. Following this, a private meeting with US congressmen led by Rich McCormick touched upon India-US security and geopolitical subjects, with the Bangladesh election likely on the agenda, though details remain undisclosed.

The Unifying Power of Poetry
Tensions between Congress Lok Sabha leader Adir Chowdhury and his colleague Abhishek Manu Singvi arose due to Singvi’s frequent representation of the West Bengal government in the Supreme Court. However, during a recent no-confidence motion, Singvi recited a cherished Urdu shayari that received widespread appreciation. In a subsequent joint press conference, Chowdhury responded with his own Urdu shayari, pleasing Singvi. Sources suggest this poetic exchange has since mended their relationship.
