Indigo Plane skid off the runway with 98 passengers onboard in Assam

An IndiGo flight carrying 98 passengers on Thursday at the Jorhat airport in Assam skidded off the runway as it was taxiing for takeoff, giving the passengers a tormenting experience. Indigo flight 6E-757 was set to depart for Kolkata at 2:20 pm. The plane’s wheels drifted off the runway while it was taxiing for takeoff and got stuck in some soft mud in a field next to the runway.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived to rescue the passengers and assisted them in deboarding the aircraft as the airport is under their maintenance.

The issue remained unresolved for more than six hours, eventually leading to the flight being cancelled. “IndiGo flight 6E-757, operating from Jorhat to Kolkata, returned back to the bay. While taxiing out, the pilot was advised that one of the main wheels had partially run over the grass adjacent to the taxiway,” Indigo said.

No damage has been caused to any of the passengers in the accident, and a team has been set up to investigate the issue.

Indigo issued a statement which read, “As a precaution, the pilot held the taxi procedure and asked for a necessary inspection. The aircraft was taken back to the bay at Jorhat for inspection. During the initial inspection, there were no abnormalities observed. As a matter of caution, the maintenance team initiated a thorough inspection. The flight was cancelled.”

Nowadays, many mid-air events are recorded these days. Several unfortunate incidents involving IndiGo planes have occurred recently.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Civil Aviation, produced the data in the Lok Sabha and stated that between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, a total of 478 technical snag-related incidents in aircraft were documented.

He stated, “During operations, an aircraft may experience technical snags due to malfunctioning of components or equipment fitted on the aircraft, which requires rectification by the airlines for continued safe, efficient, and reliable air transport service. This technical snag is reported by the flight crew upon receiving an aural or visual warning in the cockpit or an indication of an inoperative/faulty system or while experiencing difficulty in operating the aircraft.”

The airline stated, “IndiGo flight 6E-1406, operating from Sharjah to Hyderabad was diverted to Karachi. The pilot observed a technical defect. Necessary procedures were followed and as a precaution the aircraft was diverted to Karachi. An additional flight is being sent to Karachi to fly the passengers to Hyderabad.”
