India’s Covid fatality rate among lowest at 1.76%: Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said that India has been reporting one of the lowest Covid-19 fatality rates in the world with the figure further declining to 1.76% against a global average of 3.3%. It also said that Covid deaths per million population in India is one of the lowest in the world. So far, the country has reported 78,357 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total case count to 37,69,523.

 The active caseload stands at 8,01,282 while 29,01,908 patients have been cured or discharged so far. The death toll has risen to 66,333 after 1,045 patients died due to the disease. With record 17,433 new cases, coronavirus cases in Maharashtra rose to 8,25,739, while death count reached 25,195 with 292 fatalities recorded in the last twenty-four hours.

 Delhi also recorded 2,509 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in nearly two months, taking the tally to over 1.79 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 4,481.

Haryana reported 15 more fatalities due to the deadly virus in the last twenty-four hours, taking the death toll to 721. The state recorded its highest single-day spike of 1,792 new cases. With this, the infection tally in the state has increased to 68,218.
