Indian Army orders investigation into death of civilians in custody

The Indian Army has ordered a detailed internal investigation into the deaths of three civilians held in custody in the Poonch district of the Jammu region. Sources provided this information on Sunday
Following the attack on army personnel by unidentified terrorists on December 21 in Poonch, which resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, the army reportedly detained three civilians for questioning. These three individuals, aged between 27 and 42, were found dead on December 22.
Relatives and political leaders have alleged that the deaths of these individuals occurred due to “custodial torture” since they were among the eight people detained by the army for questioning.
Sources mentioned that an in-depth investigation into the deaths of the civilians has been ordered as part of standard operating procedure. The Jammu and Kashmir Police are also conducting an investigation into the deaths. The army stated on Saturday that it is committed to providing “full support and cooperation” in the conduct of the investigation. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced compensation for the families of the three deceased individuals and appointed compassion appointments for their close relatives.In the wake of the deaths of the three civilians, legal formalities were completed on Friday, and legal action has been initiated in the matter.”
