Indian Army Foils Pakistani BAT Attack in Kupwara, Neutralizes Intruder

Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir: The Indian Army successfully thwarted an attempt by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) to target Indian soldiers along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector. One Pakistani intruder was neutralized during the operation. However, the encounter resulted in the martyrdom of one Indian Army jawan, while five others, including an officer, sustained injuries.

The Border Action Teams, which include commandos from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, have a history of infiltration along the LoC. This incident marks the second encounter in Kupwara within three days, underscoring the persistent threat in the region.

The clash occurred in Kupwara’s Kamkari area following intelligence reports of terrorist movements. Despite the ongoing exchange of fire, the deceased and injured soldiers were promptly evacuated from the scene, according to Army officials.

“Indian Army troops have thwarted a Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) attack on the Line of Control against Indian forces. The BAT team involved in the attack is suspected to include regular Pakistan Army troops, including their SSG commandos, who work closely with terrorist organizations,” said Defence sources.

Earlier, on July 24, security forces neutralized an unidentified terrorist in an overnight gunfight in Kupwara’s Lolab area, where a soldier also lost his life.

Sources reveal that approximately 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s hilly districts, prompting extensive counter-terror operations by security forces. These terrorists, who have infiltrated the region, are highly trained and equipped with advanced weaponry, including American-made M4 Carbine rifles with night vision devices, according to reports.
