India to chair 62nd session ofUN body on Social Development

India will host the United Nations Commission on Social Development’s (CSocD) 62nd session. This will be the first time since 1975 that India will chair the Commission for Social Development. Ruchira Kamboj, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations was chosen to fill the position on Wednesday.
As a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council, the CSocD plays a crucial role in facilitating international cooperation on social development issues, The Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development, the Plan of Action of the World Summit for Social Development, and the results of the twenty-fourth UN General Assembly are all periodically reviewed by the commission, according to the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in New York.
The 62nd session of the Commission will prioritise the theme of “Fostering Social Development and Social Justice through Social Policies to Accelerate Progress on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the Overarching Goal of Poverty Eradication.” This theme emphasises the fundamental connection between social development and social justice in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Ambassador Kamboj’s appointment as Chair of the CSocD reflects India’s commitment to advancing social development and promoting social justice on the global stage.
India’s election to the Chair of the 62nd session of the Commission for Social Development is a significant development in the global effort to promote social development and advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
