India declares one-day mourning on 11 September

India has declared one-day mourning on September 11 on the passing away of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.

“As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day of State Mourning on September 11th throughout India,” reads a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Meanwhile, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India in all buildings on the day of mourning.

Meanwhile, several world leaders expressed grief over the passing away of the Queen including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I will never forget her warmth and kindness. During one of the meetings, she showed me the handkerchief Mahatma Gandhi gifted her at her wedding. I will always cherish that gesture,” PM Modi tweeted.

Moreover, the 47th edition of the Toronto Film Festival has been also halted on Thursday to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

However, on Thursday Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. On the same day, the Queen’s doctors placed her under “medical supervision” in Balmoral Castle in Scotland, which is her residence.
