IMD Updates Odisha: Cyclone ‘Dana’ Set to Make Landfall Between Bhitarkanika Park and Dhamra Port

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Cyclone ‘Dana’ will make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha by early Friday. The cyclone is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 120 km/h and a tidal surge of up to 2 meters.

Affected Areas

The cyclone is predicted to impact low-lying regions in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts. Umashankar Das, a senior scientist at the regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, confirmed the cyclone’s projected trajectory and warned that these areas may face significant inundation. Local authorities have been urged to evacuate residents from vulnerable zones to minimise the risk.

Preparedness Measures

The Odisha government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local disaster management teams to ensure timely evacuation and resource mobilisation. The IMD continues to track the cyclone’s movements and provide regular updates as the storm approaches the coast.
