The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighboring districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds up to 50 km/h until 8:30 am on September 26. Palghar, Nashik, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are under similar alerts, with the possibility of intense spells of rain affecting the region. Warnings extend to other parts of Maharashtra, including an orange alert for Thane and Pune.
Mumbai, already experiencing significant rain, saw waterlogging in low-lying areas, disrupting local train services and causing flight diversions at the city’s airport. Heavy rainfall is expected to persist, with the IMD advising caution for residents, especially during high tide.
