Illegal occupation of govt properties by land mafia, govt officials in Kapurthala

In Kapurthala, the city often referred to as the ‘Paris of Punjab’ due to its rich heritage inherited from the Maharajas, reports are emerging of illegal encroachments on government properties by land mafia and some alleged government officials. Prominent political leaders from various parties are making claims about this issue.

Leaders from major political parties are alleging that the city is under the grip of land mafia, and certain government officials are involved in unauthorized possession of government properties. Local political leaders have urged the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to pay attention to this serious matter. Congress leaders assert that if timely action is not taken against the land mafia by the Kapurthala administration and the state government, they will not hesitate to resort to a more aggressive stance.

Opposition leaders have questioned why the authorities are refraining from taking action against the land mafia in urban areas where campaigns are ongoing to remove illegal occupations from Panchayati lands. They demand a proactive approach against the land mafia in the city regions.
Deepak Salwan, City President, Congress said, “The situation demands immediate attention from the authorities. We cannot allow the land mafia to continue its activities unchecked.”

Harjeet Singh Waliya, District President, Akali Dal said, “This is a serious issue affecting the public. We need swift and decisive action against those involved in illegal occupations.”

Lalit Saklani, Chairman, District Planning Board, and District President A.P. said, “The issue of illegal encroachments must be addressed promptly. It is essential to safeguard government properties for the benefit of the public.”
