The enforcement wing of the town and country planning department (DTCP) carried out a sealing and demolition drive in Saraswati Kunj along Golf Course Road. Six plots were sealed, and an under-construction structure was demolished with the presence of the police.
Following online dispute and multiple allotment of plots in the residential society, government had out a complete ban on construction in the colony. A DTCP official said that due to ongoing court cases over multiple allotment of plots in the colony, there is a ban on any kind of construction activities in the colony. However locals and plot owners are indulging in unauthorised construction. District administration and DTCP are keeping a strict vigil in the area.
District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav said the offenders were issued show cause notices but they neither furnished satisfactory replies nor stopped unauthorised construction after which the sealing drive was carried out in the area.
Meanwhile, residents of Parasnath Exotica met Yadav regarding illegal construction in Saraswati Kunj, which is adjacent to their condominium. “The department took interim steps and demolished a small portion of the unauthorised construction in the past, but a large portion was left out. Now illegal construction has resumed in full swing. On behalf of more than 600 families residing at Exotica, who are feeling insecure, we request you to kindly intervene in this matter and issue necessary directions to DTP enforcement to demolish this illegal construction in a manner that it serves as a deterrent as this is a major safety concern for our society,” RWA’s letter to DTP reads.
Last month, DTCP demolished eight illegally constructed houses in the colony. These houses were constructed without any permission and building plan approval by the department.
In the past two years, the enforcement team has carried out more than 10 demolition drives in the colony and razed more than 3,000 unauthorised construction in residential buildings, jhuggi settlements and other illegal structures. However, after every few months of a demolition drive, the offenders again carry out construction violating the ban, officials said.
According to Yash Handa, a resident in the area, “Saraswati Kunj has become a center for unauthorized construction off Golf Course Road. Despite ongoing demolition drives over the past five years to curb illegal construction, the situation has not improved. This creates significant inconvenience for the residents. Over 10 plots have been developed around the condominium, and there are even instances of unauthorized borewell installations.”
