IAS, IPS officials spar over graft case against IAS Vijay Dahiya

Following a complaint, an FIR was filed against a senior IAS officer Vijay Dahia by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) recently which led to rift between the IAS and IPS lobby in the state. The resonance of the matter ranges from Haryana Secretariat and bureaucracy to political corridors. In wake of the matter, the IAS and the IPS offcials are at loggerheads over the issue.
Although, the IAS lobby is not opposing the action of ACB, it has come to the fore that there is a lot of resentment in the IAS lobby internally regarding the action of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The senior IAS officers are believed to be upset accusing the Anti-Corruption Bureau of taking one sided action.
On the other hand, the officials of the bureau are of the opinion that the rules were not flouted in any way while taking action against the concerned IAS official. Meanwhile, the issue also continues to remain in discussions in political spheres. In this case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had arrested a woman, Poonam Chopra, allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 3 lakh on April 20.
A senior IAS official said, on condition of anonymity, that the way the Anti- Corruption Bureau is taking action on HCS and IAS officials, is quite unfair and it indicates ill-intentions of the ACB. Further, he said that the bureau continues to refrain itself from taking action against the senior police officials which is a matter of serious concern.
On being asked about the issue, rejecting such allegations, a senior IPS and ADGP level official said that the such allegations are not justified as the bureau continues to nab corrupt officials irrespective of their cadre as well positions. Further, he said that the statistics of last few months of ACB clearly depict that the bureau continues to take on stern action from from constable, head constable, sub-inspector to inspector and DSP level officials involved in corruption. Be it IAS or HCS, IPS or HPS officials, fair action will be taken against all found involved in corruption, he further added.
In continuation of aforesaid, the data further revealed that the action was taken against personnel involved in corruption at large scale and the list included 46 police personnel last year including 2 Inspectors/SHOs, a retired DSP of Rajasthan Police and another Inspector working as MVO in Karnal. Apart from this, around two dozen police personnel were nabbed while accepting bribes this year so far. Similarly, five HCS officers were arrested on corruption charges, as revealed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
In this series, it is worth-mentioning that Haryana’s DGP PK Agarwal will superannuate on August 15 and several senior IPS officers are in the fray namely Muhammad Aqueel, RC Mishra and Shatrujeet Kapur who holds the portfolio of DG, Anti-Corruption Bureau. It is noticeable that Shatrujeet Kapoor is in the good books of the Chief Minister and well-known for his
working style.
