Four of the five minors who had been detained in early June in relation to the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from a Hyderabad bar were released on bail late on Tuesday.
However, the fifth juvenile, the son of a lawmaker, had his bail petition denied by the juvenile justice board in the Nampally criminal court complex because it was still pending before the high court.
The juvenile board heard separate bail petitions from the five minors twice in June, although they had already been denied. However, the four were released on bail on Tuesday after presenting a ₹5,000 surety for each.
They must comply with the investigating police and show up in front of the authorities whenever they are called, according to a court order.
At the same time, Saduddin Malik, the main defendant in the case, had his bail application denied by the Nampally Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
According to the Hyderabad police, Malik dragged the young woman into his Mercedes Benz at the Amnesia and Insomnia Pub on May 28 in the evening, drove her up to the pastry store, where they transferred her into a Toyota Innova and sexually assaulted her there.
In addition to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, police filed a complaint under sections 376-D (gang rape), 323 (causing harm), and 376 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code. In accordance with the Information Technology Act, a second lawsuit was also filed for recording the rape and disseminating the images and video.
