Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made it clear on Thursday that all necessary steps will be taken as per the law to take strict action against the drug peddlers, and the property of the culprits will be seized as well.
He said during a meeting with senior police and law officials that a Special Task Force is likely to be formed to break the supply chain to eliminate the drug mafia. “An advisory Board under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act would also be formed to check the drug mafia’s activities, as per the press release.
CM Sukhu further added that it is planned to set up a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre equipped with all the modern facilities and skilled staff so that drug addicts can be brought into the mainstream.
The Himachal CM went on to say that drugs are ruining the lives of the youth and the most crucial thing is to apprehend the guilty parties immediately and they should be booked under the law.
“We are looking to get the support of the Union Government to develop mechanisms so that the Center and state can work jointly to overcome the problem effectively by making essential amendments to the central legislation on drug menace,” he added.
However, while expressing concern regarding drug abuse, the Himachal CM added that it is the duty of the government to inform people about the abuse and its ill effects.
