Hours after row with AAP, Delhi LG clears power subsidy file

Following the day-long drama between AAP and LG on Friday regarding the power subsidy in the national capital, Delhi LG VK Saxena signed the documents, which means regularisation of the power subsidy—a major relief for 46 lakh Delhi families.
Power Minister Atishi had earlier in the day announced that subsidies will be stopped from Friday, as Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena is yet to clear the file to extend it
We will discontinue providing subsidies to 46 lakh people. People will receive inflated bills going forward without subsidies, according to Delhi Power Minister Atishi, who blamed the LG for holding onto a critical file even though the AAP government approved a budget to keep the subsidy in place for the upcoming year.
Mr Saxena’s office declared the accusations to be baseless and advised Atishi to “refrain from inappropriate politicking. The LG questioned why the paperwork was sent to him only on 11 April and why the decision was delayed until 4 April when the deadline was 15 April.
Atishi reported that she requested a five-minute meeting with Mr Saxena to talk about the electricity subsidy but hasn’t heard back in more than a day.
Atishi had earlier claimed that the BJP and Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena were engaged in a “conspiracy” to halt subsidies for the free power programme run by the Arvind Kejriwal government. She wrote to Saxena and expressed how “deeply distressing” it was that the Lt Governor did not grant time to a minister of an elected government
As per the official figures, over 48 lakh out of more than 58 lakh domestic consumers have requested for power subsidies. The AAP government announced Rs 3250 crore for power subsidies in its budget for 2023–24.
