The Meteorological Department in the state of Himachal Pradesh has issued a “yellow” alert for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of the plains, low and mid-hilly regions until May 6. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
According to reports, light to moderate rainfall continues to lash several parts of all 12 districts in the state. Among them, Jogindernagar in Mandi district received the highest rainfall of 47mm, followed by Manali with 24mm, Pachhad with 23mm, Solan with 11.2mm, and the state capital Shimla receiving 8mm of rain.
However, the rainfall has caused significant roadblocks, with 17 roads currently inaccessible for traffic in the state.
On Tuesday morning, in the Sabathu area of Solan, one person was injured due to shooting stones damaging a house. The injured person has been referred to an Army hospital in Chandigarh, according to the state emergency operation centre.
The pre-monsoon rain deficit from March 1 to April 30 in Himachal Pradesh has reduced to two per cent due to recent rainfall. The state is still on alert as the weather forecast suggests further rains in the upcoming days.
