The Himachal Pradesh High Court in the case Court on its own motion observed and has ordered an inspection of the Neugal River Bank in the Kangra’s Palampur to verify whether the garbage is still being dumped there, wherein the court directed the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Kangra, to get the inspection done and submit a report.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel in the case observed and has passed the order after perusing the reply filed by the Municipal Corporation, Palampur, wherein it has been stated by the civic body in its reply that it had taken steps to protect the environment in the area, which includes stopping the dumping of garbage on the river bank. The said court ordered the inspection to verify the same. It has also been directed by the said court that the Registry to send a copy of the paper book to the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Kangra.
However, the said order comes after a local NGO, the Dhauladhar Sewa Samiti, had filed a memorandum before the Palampur Municipal Corporation asking it to stop dumping garbage on the river bank. The, the said memorandum was widely reported in the media which led Court to take suo motu cognisance of the issue. Accordingly, the court listed the matter for further consideration on
