HEAVY SHELLING FROM PAK SIDE IN POONCH DISTRICT, NO CASUALTIES SO FAR

After a brief lull in the cross-border shelling, the Pakistani Army opened heavy fire and also shelled many forward posts on Tuesday, police and reports from the forward villages said.

Reports said that villagers from Mankote sector left their houses as the heavy shelling was going on into the nearby shelter. Police on Tuesday afternoon said that they have no reports of injuries or casualties so far.

“At about 1445 hours, Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sector in district Poonch,” a defence spokesman said in Jammu.

Latest reports said that after the Mankote sector shelling, Pakistani troops on Tuesday afternoon started shelling the forward posts in Qasba, Kerni and Mendhar sectors, and the troops were responding back.

In the recent past there have been a lot of cross-border violations in Jammu region but the people living in the border areas of Jammu had a respite of late due to the brief lull in such shelling incidents.

According to the records available with the government, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed over 5,000 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in 2020.
