Heavy rain lashes Delhi as roads waterlogged

Due to the long spell of rain that has lashed the city since Thursday, several parts of Delhi have become flooded.

Due to the heavy downpour, motorists were left frustrated by the traffic conditions, particularly during the morning rush hour.

Many commuters took to social media to complain about the traffic chaos, non-functional traffic signals, and the lack of traffic police personnel to ensure vehicle movement.

The Delhi Traffic Police also used social media to warn the public about waterlogged areas and advise them to avoid inundated areas.

Around 9:30 a.m., the traffic police Twitter account mentioned seven locations throughout the city where waterlogging had been reported.

The following locations should be avoided:

Near Hanuman Setu on Shanti van to Hanuman Mandir Carriageway, Libaspur underpass, Maharani Bagh Taimur Nagar cut, CDR Chowk, Mehrauli towards Gurugram, Andheria Mor towards Vasant Kunj, Under Nizamuddin bridge, Singhu Border near petrol pump, MB Road towards Sainik Farm carriageway.

Waterlogging was a problem at many underpasses in the city, according to traffic officers, who were coordinating with civic and road authorities to address the issue.

They stated that traffic personnel were deployed on streets where waterlogging or traffic jams were reported to the traffic control room via phone calls or social media messages.

Aside from traffic jams, many social media users reported non-functioning traffic signals, which added to the chaos.

The majority of them included the traffic police handle in their tweets. Around 7:30 a.m., one such user, Manik Malhotra, tweeted, “@dtptraffic The traffic signal on Vivek Vihar Surya Nagar Ramprastha to Dilshad Garden Apsara border Road No 56 is not working.”
