HEALTH DEPARTMENT TAKES STEP TOWARDS A TB-FREE CHANDIGARH

The Health Department of the Chandigarh administration is taking a step towards a TB-Free Chandigarh. Today, Dr. Varinder Nagpal, Acting Director of Health Services for the Chandigarh Administration, in the presence of senior officers, flagged off the teams for Active Case Finding (ACF) for Tuberculosis.

Dr. Nagpal stated that these teams would find all presumptive TB cases among the residents of Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas. They will conduct a house-to-house survey to identify symptomatic individuals and will collect on-the-spot sputum samples for free TB testing. Additionally, a free hand-holding X-ray facility will be made available at the Health and Wellness Centre in Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas, during the ACF survey. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, STO, mentioned that those diagnosed as positive cases would be initiated on free treatment at the earliest after all other necessary tests. This approach aims to facilitate early diagnosis of cases and break the chain of infection.

The ACF survey started on January 31, 2024, and will continue for fifteen days, covering Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas. Twenty teams comprising 40 trained volunteers will visit and conduct surveys in this area, targeting the entire population. On this occasion, Dr. Charru Singla, NO-NHM, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, State TB Officer, and Dr. Vandana Mohan, DFWO, were also present.
