HC gives green light to Jaipur Town Hall development

The high court has dismissed the petition of the former Royal Family of Jaipur. As per the court’s decision, the stay from the old Vidhan Sabha has been removed, and soon development work will begin. The historic Sawai Man Singh Town Hall in Jaipur, which is 180 years old, was the subject of a petition by the former Royal Family in the high court, and it has now been dismissed. During the proceedings, Justice Narendra Kumar Dhadha heard the petition. According to the decision, the old assembly is now included in the government’s assets. The former Royal Family claims that during British rule, the Town Hall and the area surrounding the Jalebi Chowk were considered private property by the government.
The property was given to the government on a lease, and according to the rules, as long as the government uses the property, it is responsible for its preservation. The property was given to the government for government purposes. However, in light of these circumstances, the former Royal family of Jaipur is now asserting its rights.
The state government’s perspective is that the property has been transferred to the state government from the Covenant, not through a lease. Any proposals should not be given for the Covenant. All decisions regarding the old property should be made according to the Covenant. After a debate between both parties, the high court has decided to dismiss the appeal of the former Rajasthan family. The halted work will now resume as the stay has been removed.
Many significant properties have been handed over to the state government by the former royal families since Independence. After the merger, the former royal families handed over their properties to the state government, including the Rajasthan Secretariat, 500 bighas of land for Rajasthan University, SMS Hospital, Maharani and Maharaja College, Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Sawai Man Singh Town Hall (Old Assembly), the Old Police Headquarters (now the Heritage Corporation Office), Rajendra Hazari Guard Building, and properties in the Jalebi Chowk.
