The Haryana government, along with the financial assistance provided by the central government, has launched Krishna Circuit project to promote tourism in Kurukshetra, known as Dharam Nagri globally.

According to the information provided by the state tourism department, the first phase of the project is about to complete and out of the sanctioned budget of Rs 97.34 crore, an amount of Rs 77 crore has been spent on infrastructure being developed for the promotion of religious tourism in the city and about 80 construction work is completed so far.

The Union government had given the nod to start the project under Swadesh Darshan Scheme for development of spots associated with the time of Mahabharata.

MD Singh, principal secretary, tourism department, is keeping a close eye on the construction and the infrastructure being developed under the Krishan Circuit and the department continues to issue instructions for the completion of delayed work.

After the completion of the first phase, the second phase is most likely to be started by April for which Rs 200 crore will be spent on the development of several projects. A senior official said that foreign companies will complete the second phase with the help of advance technology so that world-class facilities and infrastructure can be provided to the domestic as well as foreign tourists. A world-class museum will also be set up and the second phase is believed to be completed by the end of 2023.

An official of the department added that after the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the work is getting its pace and the first phase is likely to be completed soon.

The worsening conditions of the roads tarnish the image of the city among the tourists visiting the religious and tourist places of the Kurukshetra. Besides, the problem of garbage and lack of sanitation are also responsible for spoiling the image of Dharam Nagri. The list of the religious tourist places includes the names of Brahma Sarovar,Narkatari, Sannihit Sarovara and Jyotisar mainly.
