Haryana police recruitment criteria altered; emphasis on state knowledge

The criteria for Haryana Police recruitment has been amended for the third time. After the objection of Home and Health Minister Anil Vij, LR has also approved these amendments made by the Home Department. Now in the written exam of 94.5 marks, 20% questions will be related to Haryana. Along with this, 2.4 marks will be given to the eligible candidates under socio-economic criteria.

The government will also give its approval to these amendments in the new recruitment rules in the next cabinet meeting i.e. in February. In fact, Home Minister Vij had raised questions on the examination pattern for recruitment to the posts of constables and sub-inspectors. He had expressed the need to amend the pattern and recruitment rules issued by the Home Ministry. He also said that questions related to Haryana have been included in the examination which will benefit the youth of the state.

The proposal prepared by the Home Department for police recruitment was brought in the cabinet meeting on October 11 last year after getting approval from the Advocate General’s Office and LR. As soon as the file of revised recruitment rules came to Vij, he raised objection on it saying that questions related to Haryana have not been included in the exam pattern in recruitment. There must be questions based on Haryana in the exam. After this the file was put on hold till the next meeting.

According to the recruitment rules made by the Home Department, after the candidates apply, the first thing to be done is a physical screening test. Only those candidates who pass the physical test will be included in the written examination.

5000 male constables and 1000 female constables are to be recruited in Haryana Police. This recruitment is not being completed due to it being pending for a long time. For the last one year, the criteria for recruitment have not been decided. Due to one reason or the other, these criteria have been changing. However, soon after getting approval from the government, recruitment in the police department will be started.

Due to flaws in the rules amended by the Cabinet, these rules have been changed. According to the new rules, after inviting applications, the Staff Selection Commission will call 10 times the CET passed applicants for Group C for the Physical Measurement Test (PMT). The candidates who pass it will be called for the Physical Screening Test. There will be a race in it. There will be no points for completing the race but it will be part of the interview.
