Haryana municipal body elections to be held in April

Much awaited Municipal Elections will be held in Haryana in April. The State Election Commission informed that the elections are most likely to be held in the last week of April. As many as 93 Municipal Corporations, Municipal councils, and Municipal committees exist in the state and the elections will be held on 48 seats. Dhanpat Singh, the State Election Commissioner said that the commission that proper arrangements will be made to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. Further he said that voter list was prepared till 5 January 2022. it is pertinent to mention that out of the total Municipal Bodies, 11 are Municipal Corporations to be followed by 22 Municipal Councils and 60 Municipal Committees.

Hemant Kumar, a lawyer at Punjab and Haryana High Court, said that the election commission had issued the schedule of revised voter’s list and updated information. Apart from this, the final voter list of 42 Municipal Bodies will be printed till March 16, 2022, and the finalisation of voter list in 6 Municipal Bodies including Kalka, Narnaul, Fatehabad, Ladwa along with Bhiwani Municipal Council and Asandh Municipal Committee is yet to be completed till 24 March 2022. Likewise, the final voter list of Rania (Sirsa District) is to come on 28 March. After the completion of the voter’s list, the Election Commission may declare the final date of elections.

According to the information provided by the Election Commission, electoral roles were revised in August 2021 and after that, the voters whose names were either added or deleted from the list, are yet to be updated in the list before the election takes place. The Election Commission of India had issued the electoral role for assembly as well as parliamentary elections on January 5, 2022, and considering the same list, the state Election Commission will conduct the elections and no further addition or deletion will be accepted in the list.
