Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh has refused to consent to a lie detector or polygraph test in connection with an alleged molestation case registered against him last year. In the reply, Singh denied the allegations, calling them “a total false and frivolous complaint” made to malign his reputation.
Last December, a junior woman athlete coach accused Singh, who was then the sports minister, of harassing her through repeated messages on social media, inappropriate touching, and threats. Singh denied any wrongdoing, and the Khaps of Haryana demanded that the BJP-led government in the state dismiss him. The Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against Singh under sections 354, 354A, 354B, 342, and 506 of the IPC and launched an investigation. In response to the SIT’s application seeking permission to conduct the polygraph test, Singh’s lawyer submitted that his client had refused to consent, and the application should be dismissed in the interest of justice. The SIT had argued that the test was necessary to uncover the truth, as the minister’s claims contradicted the victim’s statements.
Singh had handed over the responsibility of the Sports Department to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar pending the investigation, stating that the allegations against him were made to damage his image.
With the case still ongoing, it remains to be seen what the outcome will be.
