With the festival season around the corner, to curb adulterated food, Food and Drug (FDA) Administration wing along with other departments is conducting raids to catch those producing, manufacturing and selling adulterated food items. Those playing with the health of the people by selling adulterated food items, especially sweets are under the radar. All departments have been alerted in this regard and necessary directions have been given.
In this series, as many as 848 samples of food and milk products are collected under the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 and sent for testing to labs. Besides, the food items which were not edible were destroyed on the spots. During the inspection, all sweet sellers across the state were advised to sell only fresh and quality food products. The samples of Khoya, Rasgulla, Barfi and Paneer were collected. According to the data made available by the concerned department, 3,851kg sweets, 150 kg khoya and 4,954 kg food products were destroyed due to poor quality. Besides, the officials have directed to ensure the timely lab testing reports of the eatables.
The CM Manohar Lal said that during festivals, many people get involved in just adulteration practices just to earn additional in-come. While tightening the noose around all such people, regular raids are being conducted continuously by CM Flying, Police and Food Sup-plies Department. Samples of food items have been taken in many districts and adulterated food items have also been caught. Strictest action will be taken against those who are found involved in such illegal activities.
It is worth mentioning that government is working on a plan to set up food and water testing labs under one roof to check adulteration. This will provide convenience to the general public. Necessary directions have been given to the concerned department in this regard. Present-ly, the state has two food testing laboratories functional under the FDA.
