The Haryana government has renamed the historic village ‘Panjokhra’ in the Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency to ‘Panjokhra Sahib’. Following permission from the central government to rename the village, the Haryana government has issued its notification in this regard. Home Minister Anil Vij recommended to the state government to rename the village as ‘Panjokhra Sahib,’ considering its religious significance. It was his efforts that led to the proposal to rename Panjokhra as Panjokhra Sahib being passed in the Haryana Assembly session. The state government had sent this proposal to the central government to annotate the village’s name as ‘Panjokhra Sahib’ in official records.
The central government did not express any objections to the state government’s proposal. Subsequently, the Haryana government issued the notification.
