Haryana farmers block Delhi-Chandigarh highway by holding mahapanchayat

After conducting a mahapanchayat to demand a minimum support price for sunflower seed, farmers assembled there on Monday, causing traffic on the Delhi-Chandigarh National Highway to be affected.

The mahapanchayat included representatives from a number of khaps as well as Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait and Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia, one of the competitors calling for action against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) organised the “MSP Dilao, Kisan Bachao mahapanchayat” at a grain market in Pipli adjacent to National Highway-44 that farmers had stopped a few days prior in order for the government to buy sunflower seed at MSP.
