The Gujrat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) together have seized 39.5 kg of heroin. Reportedly, the drugs were seized from Kolkata and are estimated to be worth Rs 200 crore.
The ATS team had received a tip-off regarding a scrap shipment imported in February that has been languishing at the docks of the Kolkata Sea port since landing and contains drugs, according to director general of police Ashish Bhatia.
The DGP added that an ATS team and a DRI Jamnagar team were sent to Kolkata based on the information, and during the inspection they discovered 12 gear boxes with white marks on them. IANS said that when the crates were unpacked, 72 packs of heroin were discovered inside, each weighing 39.5 kg and costing Rs 197.82 crore on the international market.
