Approval for the National Green India Mission project, sponsored by the Indian government for the Mandi and Nachan forest divisions, was granted during the executive committee meeting of the District Level Forest Development Authority Mandi. The project aims to plant trees across a total forest area of 2102 hectares within the Mandi forest division over the next 8 years. This comprises 1236 hectares in Mandi and 866 hectares in Nachan forest divisions, aided by joint forest management committees. Ajit Thakur, the Chief Forest Officer of Mandi, shared this information during his leadership of the executive committee meeting.

He mentioned that the upcoming 8-year perspective plan for the National Green India Mission project, sponsored by the Indian government, will be implemented from the year 2022-23 to 2029-30 under the Mandi and Nachan forest divisions, as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. He highlighted that the meeting’s line department, including proposals presented by agriculture, horticulture, and local bodies, have been suggested for implementation in public interest and have been unanimously approved.

The Divisional Forest Officer, Vasu Dogar, and Divisional Forest Officer Nachan, SS Kashyap, provided comprehensive information about the proposed 8-year perspective plan for the forest divisions of Mandi and Nachan as part of the National Green India Mission project.

They mentioned that as per the criteria set by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, the mission aims to prepare and train local communities and local institutions under agriculture, horticulture, and Panchayati Raj to generate livelihoods and produce relevant products, along with empowering local institutions at the grassroots level.
