Grand inauguration of volleyball court at GGDSD College, Chandigarh

A spectacular inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday by the GGDSD College Students’ Council and the Department of Physical Education to officially kick off the much-anticipated Two-Day Annual Sports Meet 2024.

The event, which also included the official opening of the newly constructed Volleyball Court, saw esteemed dignitaries such as Dr. Sidharth Sharma, Vice President of GGDSD College Society, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of the institution, gracing the occasion. Additionally, the Deans of Students’ Welfare, Dr. Rajinder Mann and Dr. Tarundeep Kaur, were present to endorse and witness the proceedings. “The inauguration of the Volleyball Court is a testament to our commitment to fostering not just academic excellence but also providing a robust platform for the physical development and holistic growth of our students,” remarked Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of GGDSD College.

The event featured a wide range of sporting disciplines, and noteworthy participation numbers were recorded across multiple teams. In particular, the following is a breakdown of team participation:

There are 24 football teams, 5 basketball boys teams, 3 basketball girls teams, 7 tug of war boys teams, 9 tug of war girls teams, 4 volleyball girls teams, 11 volleyball boys teams, and 36 mix relay teams. These numbers capture the scope of athletic offerings at the college as well as the student body’s fervent participation and spirit of competition. The college administration thanked Vaishali Sharma and the other dignitaries for their gracious attendance and assistance.

“Participation in sports is a cornerstone of character building and instills values that extend beyond the playing field. We are proud to witness the dedication and passion of our students,” commented Ms. Vaishali Sharma, President of GGDSD College Society.

The sports meet will culminate with the finals tomorrow, and a grand closing ceremony is scheduled at 4 pm. The highlight of the closing ceremony will be the Prize Distribution, where outstanding performers and teams will be honored for their achievements.
