Govt runs several skill developing programmes for girls

Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma on Wednesday raised a question in Rajya Sabha regarding the reason for programmes being run by the government to increase the skill potential of girls in the field of skill development.
Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship responded in response to the inquiry that skill training is provided to all societal segments, including girls, through a vast network of skill development centers/institutes across the nation under various schemes.
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a demand-driven programme that provides youngsters in all states and Union Territories with skill development training through Short-Term Training (STT) and Recognition of Previous Learning (RPL) to youth across all States/ Union Territories (UTs).
The goal of the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme is to provide vocational training to those who lack literacy, are illiterates, have only elementary education up to the eighth grade, and school dropouts who have completed up to the 12th grade. Women, SC, ST, OBC, and minorities are given priority.
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was created to promote apprenticeship training, and it also offers financial assistance to industrial establishments that are implementing apprenticeship programmes in accordance with the Apprentices Act of 1961.
Via Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) around the nation, the Craftsmen Training Plan will offer long-term training. A variety of vocational/skill training courses are offered by the ITIs.
He inquired about the number of girls who have undergone skill development training during the past three years in the nation, including Haryana.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated in a written reply that among the schemes of the MSDE, placements are specifically tracked under PMKVY.
In the recent three years (2019–20, 2020–21, and 202–22), 5,07,590 women have been reported nationwide under PMKVY, of whom 18,874 are from the state of Haryana.
Regarding MSDE’s other programmes, third-party evaluation studies have found success in terms of placement or increases in income of candidates trained.
As far as the employment of the JSS scheme beneficiaries is concerned, a third-party study of the programme found that the training programme implemented at JSSs had a noticeable impact on the beneficiaries’ ability to find self-employment, wage work, and private employment.
The report has further observed that the usefulness of the scheme would be further evident from the fact that 77.05% of the beneficiary trainees have undergone occupational shifts.
