Govt has approved 713 districts under ‘One District One Product scheme

Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma brought up the topic of the government’s implementation of the “One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme on Friday.
In a written response to the Upper House, the Food Processing Industries Ministry has acknowledged that One District, One Product (ODOP) has been approved for 713 districts in 35 states and UTs out of the total of 766 districts spread across 36 states and UTs as part of the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, which is run by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). West Bengal has agreed to take part in the programme in January 2023. On the advice of the States/UTs, the Ministry approved the ODOPs. The corresponding states and UTs have not suggested the ODOP for the districts of West Bengal or for newly formed districts in any of the other seven states or UTs.”
In another part of the question, he asked about the number of incubation centres and startups that have been setup across the country for the implementation of this scheme.
Answering the question, “MoFPI has categorically mentioned that 76 incubation centres all over the country have been established so far,” Overall, 205.95 crore has been spent by the central government to provide support to existing entrepreneurs for capacity building and new product developments.
