Govt grants free bus travel for SPOs with monthly RS 120 deduction

The Haryana government has taken a progressive step to enhance the working conditions of Special Police Officers (SPOs) within the police department by extending the privilege of free bus travel. This initiative, announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal and subsequently approved by the Finance Department, signifies a positive development in addressing the needs of the 11,052 active SPOs across various districts of Haryana.
While these officers hold the official designation of Special Police Officers in police records, their employment status is irregular, and their salaries are contingent upon budgetary approvals. Typically assigned to support the police force, SPOs often find themselves managing traffic in various districts. Responding to the demands voiced by SPOs, Chief Minister Manohar Lal has directed relevant departments to devise plans for offering free travel facilities to these officers for their official duties.
In adherence to financial regulations, SPOs utilizing the complimentary travel service will not receive additional allowances such as travel allowances (TA). Instead, a nominal deduction of 120 will be applied to their salaries each month. Similar to other categories benefiting from economical rates on state buses, SPOs are set to receive Travel Smart Cards, facilitating discounted travel. Usage of these cards will be mandatory, requiring SPOs to swipe them during their journeys. This progressive initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to addressing the unique needs of Special Police Officers and improving their working conditions. By providing the convenience of free travel for official duties, the government aims to streamline and enhance the efficiency of SPOs, recognizing their crucial role in supporting law enforcement efforts across Haryana.
