Govt assures to make India global hub in green hydrogen

Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma on Tuesday brought up the subject of the number of projects being carried out around the nation, including Haryana, as part of the National Green Hydrogen Programme.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy responded in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission on 4 January 2023, with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore.
The objective of the mission is to make India the global hub for the production, use, and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.
Many projects, including the creation of electrolysers and green hydrogen, are in progress under several Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programmes.
Many initiatives, such as those involving steel, transportation, decentralised energy uses, the manufacture of hydrogen from biomass, hydrogen storage, and so forth, are currently under progress.
Within a framework of public-private partnerships, the research and development programme has been included to aware the general public.
In a different query, Kartikeya Sharma inquired about the expected outcomes of the National Green Hydrogen Mission by 2030.
In response to this question, the Union Ministry confirmed that India’s potential to produce green hydrogen is anticipated to reach 5 MMT per year. Nearly 50 MMT per year of CO2 emissions are expected to be avoided as a result of the various Green Hydrogen initiatives under the Mission. This is likely to leverage over Rs 8 lakh crore in total investments in creating the Green Hydrogen ecosystem and create over 6 lakh jobs.
