In a move aimed at enhancing competitiveness among government high and senior secondary schools in Punjab, the state is set to implement a grading system for the first time. The plan is to introduce this system to foster healthy competition among schools and improve overall academic performance.

The implementation of the grading system is scheduled to commence after the conclusion of the holidays, with preparations underway for its initiation. The initiative by the Education Department is expected to initiate healthy competition among government schools, contributing to improved educational outcomes. Currently, there are around 1,740 high schools and 1,972 senior secondary schools in Punjab.

This decision by the Education Department is seen as a step towards aligning government schools with private institutions that have already adopted grading systems. The move aims to motivate students and enhance the overall quality of education in government schools. The grading criteria have been set, and a letter has been issued to district education officials and school principals outlining the details. The implementation process is expected to begin soon after the reopening of schools post-holidays.

Education officials believe that the introduction of the grading system will instigate healthy competition among schools, encouraging them to strive for better grades and educational outcomes. The move is viewed as a positive step toward improving the quality of education and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in government schools across the state.
