Asad Ahmed, the son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in an encounter in the State, and the Uttar Pradesh government has established a two-member judicial commission to investigate the incident.
The creation of a two-member judicial enquiry commission to look into the encounter in Jhansi was announced by the State administration on Sunday. On 13 April near Jhansi, Asad and his accomplice Ghulam in the Umesh Pal murder case were both murdered in a shootout with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force.
Rajeev Lochan Mehrotra, a retired judge from the High Court, and retired DG Vijay Kumar Gupta will serve as the committee’s leaders.
Two special investigating teams (SITs) have been formed, as previously announced by the Uttar Pradesh police, to look into the spectacular deaths of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed.

In addition, the State government ordered the creation of a three-person judicial inquiry commission, which would be led by retired judge Arvind Kumar Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court, to look into the killings of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed. Brijesh Kumar Soni, a retired judge, and Subesh Kumar Singh, a former DGP, are two additional members of the committed.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by men posing as mediapersons on April 15 night while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj. Both the gangsters collapsed on the spot after they were shot at nearly point-blank range. Atiq Ahmed was accused in the 2005 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal murder case and also in the murder case of Umesh Pal which happened in February this year.
