Google Chrome is world’s most vulnerable web browser: Survey

According to a survey conducted by Atlas VPN and published on Wednesday, Google Chrome, the most widely used web browser in the world, is the most vulnerable. A total of 3,159 cumulative vulnerabilities have been found in the well-known web browser as of this posting, according to the VPN service provider, a division of Nord security.

The statistics are based on data from the VulDB database of vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities reported in the database between January 1, 2022, and October 5, 2022 are summarised in the report. Although the research focused on the total number of vulnerabilities, it did not show how serious the flaws were (including those with patches).

Mozilla’s Firefox browser is ranked second with 117 vulnerabilities.

Microsoft Edge was reported to have 103 vulnerabilities as of October 5, which is 61% more than the previous year. According to the research, it has had a total of 806 vulnerabilities since its debut.

Apple’s Safari browser has less vulnerability than its competitors when compared to other browsers. It has 26 vulnerabilities in the first three quarters of 2022, and 1,139 vulnerabilities overall since its launch, according to the analysis. Today, Safari is the second-most popular browser in the world, behind Google Chrome, with over 1 billion users.

Surprisingly, just 344 vulnerabilities have been disclosed for the Opera browser thus far in 2022.

According to the study, the Chromium engine powers Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera, suggesting that any vulnerability in Chromium may affect all of these browsers.

Recently, the Google Chrome desktop browser was revealed to have a number of vulnerabilities, according to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN). The organisation has cautioned users of the possibility of remote hackers accessing the system and carrying out nefarious deeds.
