Traffic on the Jammu-Katra railway track was halted for hours after a goods train derailed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu region on Sunday. The incident caused a complete stoppage of train movement on the route leading to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra.
The derailment occurred in the Bajalta area of Jammu, blocking both the up and down lines on the Jammu-Katra-Udhampur train route. According to reports, no major incident occurred during the derailment, as the train was moving at a normal speed. One of the wagons reportedly detached from the engine and went off the tracks, while the engine and remaining wagons continued to their destination.
Officials confirmed that due to the derailment, the Vande Bharat train was also stopped.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the derailment was caused by incorrect signalling by a train traffic official. Railway officials are currently on the scene, and further legal action is being taken.
Emergency teams have been sent to both locations, and investigations into the causes of both derailments are underway. In the evening at around 5pm traffic was restored on rout after clearing the track
