The Class 10 examinations were scheduled to start on May 4 and end on June 7, in offline mode. The practical examinations were to be conducted from March 1. However, the surge in Covid-19 cases caused the Board to announce the cancellation of Class 10 examinations. The CBSE results for Class 10 students are being prepared on the basis of an alternative means of assessment, as the examinations could not be conducted due to the pandemic. According to this alternative assessment plan, 20 marks are based on internal assessments which have been conducted by schools, 10 marks are allotted to periodic/unit tests, 30 marks are allotted to half-yearly examinations, and 40 marks are allotted to pre-board examination scores. In case any school has not conducted a particular component of assessment, a Result Committee has been formed in every school to decide on the criteria for awarding marks.

There has been a jump in the number of students getting marks over 90%. As many as 2,00,962 students have scored more than 90% marks. A total of 57,824 students have got 95% and above mark in CBSE class 10 results 2021. Region-wise, Trivandrum remains the undefeated champion as it not only is the best among regions, but has the highest ever pass percentage with 99.99% of students from the region clearing the examinations. It is followed closely by Bengaluru which has a 99.96% pass percentage. Since the examinations were cancelled, students are being assessed based on their year-long performance including practicals, unit tests, pre-boards, mid-terms. This is the first time that the board announced results for class 10 without an examination; however, the pass percentage is expected to go up.

According to the CBSE’s assessment policy, students will get 20 marks for practicals and for 80 marks which are usually given based on the theory examinations, 10 marks for periodic/unit tests, 30 marks for half-yearly/ mid-term examinations, and 40 marks for pre-board examinations. As much as 91.46 per cent of students had passed the examinations in 2020. This was a slight increase from 2019 when 91.1 per cent of students could clear the class 10 board examinations conducted by the CBSE. This was a huge leap from 88.67 per cent in 2018. After the declaration CBSE class 10 results, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted:
