Gian Chand Gupta pushes for Panchkula’s development in high-level meeting

Haryana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta convened a meeting with top officials from five key departments and corporations on Tuesday to expedite the development projects in Panchkula.

Representatives from Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDS), Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP), Panchkula Municipal Corporation, and Public Works Department attended the meeting.

These entities play crucial roles in delivering public services and overseeing development initiatives in Panchkula. Speaker Gian Chand Gupta emphasized the need for transparency and efficiency in the departments providing public services. Currently, similar services are being offered by different departments in various sectors, leading to confusion among the public. Gupta stressed the importance of simplifying the distribution of tasks related to water supply, sanitation, property tax, and park beautification.

Officials at the meeting reported that the Town Planning Department has submitted a comprehensive development plan for Panchkula and surrounding areas to the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority.

The Municipal Corporation has transferred 38 roads from the Haryana Urban Development Authority to PMDA, which will oversee their resurfacing and redevelopment. The responsibility for water supply and sewerage within sectors will shift from HSVP to the Municipal Corporation, while PMDA will handle these tasks outside the sectors. PMDA will also take charge of rainwater drainage systems and beautification of major natural drains in the city.

Officials announced that tenders for the beautification of drains from MDC to Sector 17 and Sectors 2 and 4 will be issued by February 15. HSIIDC is set to expand the industrial area and develop a park, with a Rs 23.5 crore tender issued on January 3 for the construction of a 66 KV power sub-station.

During the meeting, discussions also covered the reconstruction of the bridge damaged in Khetpurali during rains, road erosion near Beed Ghaggar, and roads constructed by the Marketing Board across the district.

The Vice President reviewed the progress of cleanliness in MDC sectors, collection of C&D waste, construction of the Archaeology Department Museum in Sector 5, the State Library Building, the Mother-Child Hospital in Sector 6, and the Sanskrit College.
