Georgia becomes first US state to pass resolution condemning Hinduphobia

In a historic move, the US Georgia Assembly passed the first-ever resolution condemning Hinduphobia, making the state the first in the US to do so.

According to the official Twitter handle of the CoHNA (Coalition of Hindus of North America), the legislation recognises the contributions of Indian Americans and Hindu Americans in Georgia and condemns the rise of Hinduphobia across the country.

The Coalition of Hindus of North America is a grassroots advocacy and civil rights organisation that represents North America’s Hindu community.

The ‘Understanding Hinduphobia Initiative’ resolution passed by the Georgia legislature defined Hinduphobia as “a set of antagonistic, destructive, and derogatory attitudes and behaviours towards Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) and Hindus that may manifest as prejudice, fear, or hatred.”

The official Twitter account of CoHNA reads,”Georgia’s legislature passes the first-ever County Resolution condemning #Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu bigotry in a historic move! The resolution acknowledged the contributions of Indian Americans and Hindu Americans in Georgia while also calling attention to the rising #Hinduphobia across the country. The @HinduphobiaConf and @RutgersU and @ncri io research have both documented this trend.

The resolution also stated that the American Hindu community has made significant contributions to a variety of sectors in the United States, including medicine, science and engineering, information technology, hospitality, finance, academia, manufacturing, energy, retail trade, and many others.
