In Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj, five young individuals perished in a canal, according to police reports on Saturday. The victims, named Shahid, Abhishek, Salman, Asif, and Jahid, ranged in age from 16 to 22 and were all from the Etah district.
The police reported that the tragedy occurred when nine youths went for a swim in the Hazara canal in Nadrai area on Friday. They unexpectedly slipped into deeper waters and began to drown because of the strong current. While four managed to escape, the others were not so fortunate. The screams alerted nearby locals who then notified the authorities.
Subsequently, local police and SDRF teams initiated a rescue operation, recovering two bodies on Friday. The operation resumed on Saturday, resulting in the retrieval of three additional bodies, which were then sent for post-mortem examination. SHO Kotwali Ramvakeel Singh verified the occurrence on Saturday, and the police continued their investigation into the incident.
