The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC)’sIntegratedDisease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) has documented five Covid-related deaths in the nation during the past 24 hours. As of January 2, 2024, 11 states had reported 511 cases of the JN.1 series variant. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that 602 new cases had been reported in the previous day, bringing the total number of cases to 4,50,15,136. At 4,440 cases, the active caseload represented a 125-day decline from Tuesday. In just the past day, 722 individuals have made a full recovery, bringing the total to 4,44,77,272.

State-wise distribution indicated 2 deaths in Kerala in the last 24 hours. The deceased has been identified as a 66-year-old male with Chronic Liver Disease, Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and Sepsis and a 79-year-old female with coronary artery disease (CAD), T2DM, and Sepsis.
Karnataka reported one Covid death in the last 24 hours. A 45-year-old male with hypertension (HTN) from Vijayanagar lost his life due to Covid.
Punjab reported one Covid death. The deceased has been identified as a 62-year-old male with Pulmonary Kochs, Lung injury, and MODS.

In the past 24 hours, one Covid-related death has been reported in Tamil Nadu. A 74-year-old man who had hypertension, CAD, DM, and interstitial lung disease passed away. Reconcilation of mortality figures is ongoing in Bihar. On Tuesday, Odisha reported 27 active cases. According to the ICMR, 32,946 tests were performed nationwide on January 2. There is still work being done to reconcile death statistics.
